Washington Athletic Club
1325 6th Ave. [ Downtown ] | ph: (206) 622-7900

Opened in 1930, the Washington Athletic Club is a fitness center that transcends definition. This club comprises everything one may need to lead a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life. It is an athletic club, wellness center, and spa, all in one. Add to that an Inn (yes, you can stay overnight), fine dining establishments, and a sports bar, and you have a place where you could practically stay forever. From a purely athletic standpoint, this place is tops.

The new co-ed conditioning center includes state-of-the-art gym equipment - including recumbent bikes with full internet capabilities. There are running groups, weekend kayaking, hiking, and golfing trips; adult basketball classes taught by a former Sonics coach; a full yoga and sports menu; training for a plethora of sports, including squash and scuba diving; and plenty of teams, camps, and classes for kids and adults. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The Washington Athletic Club hosts opera previews, museum outings, domestic and overseas excursions, a book discussion group, Friday night bridge club, and classes ranging in topic from art collecting to recycling. This is certainly the place to join for those who are passionate about keeping their bodies as fit as their minds.

Potential members should schedule a tour for additional information.

The Vault Fitness
808 Second Ave | ph: (206) 224.9000
Named as one of the top ten health clubs in America by Fitness Magazine, The Vault has also been featured in Vogue, Shape, and the Wall Street Journal. Located in a renovated turn-of-the-century bank building, the club's architecture and ambience is as inspiring as its fitness and training options. The Vault offers a full menu of classes, personal training, tanning, massage therapy, spa services, and even has it's own café, The Farmer's Table. The opportunity to enjoy the club's 3,500-gallon whirlpool (complete with a dramatic waterfall) housed in the original bank vault is, in itself, worth the price of membership!
Olympic Athletic Club
5301 Leary Ave. NW [ Ballard ] | ph: (206) 789-5010
Located in an 1890s brick building that once held a speakeasy and Ballard's first post office, the Olympic Athletic Club's quaint atmosphere differs from the neon encrusted spaces that have come to represent today's fitness scene. Those seeking a friendly, down-to-earth place to workout will find nothing better. In fact, the club is so intent about this that its own policy states, "We're not a meat market or a fashion show." What you will find here is a 24 hour fitness facility that offers all the equipment that other gyms have, plus court sports, aerobics, acupuncture, massage, karate; a sauna, steam room, and whirlpool; classes for seniors and pregnant women, and seminars by visiting healthcare professionals. Although it isn't flashy, Olympic Athletic Club lacks nothing.
